Agave americana var protoamericana - local cultivate

Y12-02 — Zone 7b to 10Texas and Northeastern Mexico

Tough as Leather! This is most likely a form of Agave americana protoamericana or one of the A. protoamerican intergrades with A. asperima (syn. A. scabra) that has been cultivated as a pass along plant by generations throughout the region. It has the classic Agave americana look but is definitely more hardy than true A. americana. Tolerates temperatures down into the low teens F. with minimal damage. An easy to cultivate plant needing minimal bed preparation and tolerating extremes of dry and wet with ease. For the person wanting the classic "Century Plant" look with the least effort and care this is the plant for you.
