Agave difformis
Y01-60 — Zone 8a to 10— Mexico
This plant is a member of the Marginatae Group of Agaves, which also includes species like A. lophantha, A lechuguilla, A. funkiana and A. xylonacantha. I mention its familial relatives so that people familiar with them will have an idea of this plant's growth form. Like some of its other relatives it produces rosettes with many long, narrow, sword-like leaves. This plant can offset profusely, creating extensive colonies that are wickedly imposing. Leaf color is normally grey-green with a creamy-white band (of varying widths) running down the center of each leaf. In your garden keep these well away from narrow and tight pathways unless you get some perverse pleasure in hearing folks yelp "Ouch" !
