Agave potatorum 'Snowfall'
After a snowfall!
Agaves, in areas where they are hardy, can be so stunningly beautiful after light dustings of snow. Snow seems to soften yet enhance an Agaves rigid silhouette. Unfortunately Agave potatorum is not hardy to frost, much less snow but with a this variegated clone none of that really matters. This plant expresses all of the visual delight of a light snowfall without it actually having to get cold and snow. The central mid-zone of each leaf is a grayish-green but the leaf margins are perfectly highlighted with a creamy white band. Rich, rusty-brown spines and teeth are set in contrast to the variegated leaf margins and enhance the visual impact. The terminal spines on each leaf have a sinuous wavy form , which gives the perfect punctuation point to and already over the top performance. Snow or not this clone puts chills up and down ones spine.
This Agave potatorum variegate is an introduction from Allen Repashy and Kelly Griffin at Xeric Growers.
