Agave x 'Sharkskin Shoes'
Blue-green artichoke! Visitors always ask about this sculptural beauty. We did as well, years back when we first laid eyes on this incredible Agave scabra and Agave victoria-reginae cross at the Ruth Bancroft garden in Walnut Creek, California. After growing this fine agave, we decided to name it in her honor, not knowing another Agave bore her name. We now acknowledge it as 'Sharkskin Shoes'. The thick, dark blue-green leaves are accented by a large, black terminal spine. The triangular shaped leaves are of heavy substance and are uniformly spaced, creating a perfect sphere. It offsets freely to form small colonies. After so many years growing Agaves, this one still rates as one of the best.
