Aloe greatheadii
Y09-24 — Zone 8b to 10— South Africa
This slow growing aloe withstood the brutal Texas summers and faced the cruel frosty winters only to surprise us by setting flower buds. They were undamaged by the hard frost of late winter and were in full bloom by early spring. Thick succulent leaves, which are dark green with light silver flecks arranged in a geometric pattern, form in a tight rosette. The leaf tips slowly turn orange-red and curl beneath. These characteristics become apparent only when the plant matures and are accentuated when stressed.
