Asparagus racemosus
Shatavari! This plant is known commonly in India by its Hindi name of Shatavari which roughly translates as in. she who possesses a hundred husbands. in. It is used medicinally for overall health in women, as a reproductive tonic and has numerous other medicinal uses--too many to mention. We have been growing this tuberous, vining Asparagus for its ornamental qualities and have always admired the dark-green, needle-like foliage which has a Cedrus atlantica-like quality. We did not know about it herbal properties until we did some research on the internet. Little did we know we had a in. cure all in. growing in the garden! The foliage is evergreen in mild climates but has been root-hardy for us down into the middle teens.
