Welcome to Yucca Do Nursery

Billbergia nutans

Y06-26 — Zone 8b to 10Brazil

A winter bloomer! Every winter this plant has surprised us with exotic blossoms in striking color combinations. The royal-blue and chartreuse flowers hang with fiery red bracts, in a season when little else blooms. Even when temperatures dip as low as 17 degrees, it continues to bloom. We plant ours at the base of small shrubs to protect it from heavy winter frost and the hot summer sun.

Notes and observations about this plant

Gifts for friends by Gary Bateman
Every two or three years you will have a pot loaded with pups that you can divide and give away to friends or even plant in the garden. In the low 20's the plant does fine but lower than that you'll get frost burn. (Posted on 3/22/11)
Easy care, hardy plant by Adelina Serna
This plant was a gift from a friend who lives in Martinez, CA. I live 3 blocks from the beach in Aptos, CA and this plant thrives in my back patio area where it gets filtered indirect bright sun near a giant australian fern. We do get frost in the winter and have mild, sometimes foggy, summers up into the low 80's. I have divided this plant a couple of times and it keeps on growing in pots looking so gorgeous when it blooms in February and March. This is an easy care, hardy plant. (Posted on 5/9/10)
Plant owner by Jean Fountain
I purchased this plant in 2009; divided it into two hanging pots after bloom last summer and this Spring both are blooming beautifully. The best part is there are now about 20 pups between the two pots that will be divided once bloom is over. A great plant to own! (Posted on 4/6/10)
