Brahea armata
Mexican Blue Hesper Palm!
During the long, hot summers of the South and Southwest the heat can be oppressive. Swimming pools are often desired but they are not always affordable or possible. When a pool is out of the question adding plants with silver and blue foliage to the landscape is an effective way to invoke a cool state of mind. This palm is great at creating this soothing effect. The silver, blue-green fronds moving with the slightest breeze is amazing, Whether 2' tall or 20' tall, this palm creates a refreshing experience. Once established this species is drought tolerant. Best foliage color occurs in full sun.
In ultra humid climates molds often grows on the older, lower leaves becoming unsightly but does not harm the health of the plant. The unsightly, moldy leaves can be removed yearly after new leaves flush in early summer.
