Cephalotaxus harringtonia var. drupacea 'Duke Gardens'
Duke Garden's Plum Yew!
This low-growing, evergreen conifer performs beautifully in shady woodland conditions, tolerating acid to alkaline conditions as long as the soil is well-drained. This particular cultivar originates from the gardens at Duke University in North Carolina. It has a very fine texture to the needles. The stems radiate out from the center of the plant evenly, pointing slightly upward as they grow. The top of a large specimen appears to have a slight depression in the center of the plant looking rather like a shallow dish or bowl.
The image shown is of a plant at Duke University, in NC. We recommend that the plant be grown in full-shade in the hot, dry South but if you are in a moist northern area the plant can adapt to part-sun quite well.
