Cereus fernambucensis ssp. fernambucensis
D27-50 — Zone 10 to 10— Bahia, Brazil
Creeping cereus! This low-growing cactus is quite common on the sandy dunes in coastal areas of Eastern Brazil, forming 3' to 5' diameter, ground hugging colonies. The ribbed stems grow out from a central base rooting where they touch the ground. The plant produces large Cereus white flowers that occur mainly at night, which are followed by 2 in. diameter, pink skinned fruit that have a white flesh and black seeds inside. A great, small Cereus that should be suitable for a large pot or large hanging basket.
