Crinum x 'Summer Nocturne'
Y08-77 — Zone 7a to 10— Thad Howard hybrid
Carl's favorite crinum hybrid!
A crinum bred in Texas by Thad Howard in 1964. The result is a robust growing plant that offsets well and produces the most elegant flowers. They are lily-like in form and pure white with a tinge of pale pink at the petals' tips. What I find most striking is the effect that is given by the pollen sac which quickly ages from olive green to black thus punctuating the angelic qualities of the flower. Here it flowers starting in July after thunderstorms till frost.
