Cycas panzhihuaensis

Amongst the hardiest ! This species is listed amongst the most cold hardy of the Cycas. It occurs in a subtropical region that have hot humid summers but is found at high altitude where winters are cold and severe frosts are common. The leaves are typically green, are very shiny and gain an almost iridescent quality as the plant gains maturity. Shape and form of plant is similar to C. revoluta but with a softer silhouette overall. An attractive feature of this plant is that the upper third of mature trunks are often covered in a rusty-red, woolly material that is most pronounced and visible as the plant flushes new leaves. Requires excellent drainage.

- This cycad is hardy for zone 7b of the NC piedmont. No issues with it, even small liner plants. They gain in size each year. (Posted on 2/24/12)
