Cycas taitungensis

Emperor sago! This plant is very similar to Sago palm (Cycas revoluta) but much larger and faster growing. Where Sago palm flushes new growth once a year, Cycas taitungensis flushes twice a year. It will get twice as big at twice the speed. When positioning this plant, plan for it to reach 10' across in 5 to 10 years. Now that the plant has been in cultivation for several years and more information about its hardiness has come to light we are now listing the plant as hardy to zone 8a. Large established plants have been hardy to 7 degrees in Raleigh, NC, a zone 7b climate, with some protection and mulching of the trunk.
