Cymbidium sinensis
Y06-01 — Zone 8a to 10— China
Hardy Orchid!
Widely grown in Asia for its fragrant flowers and elegant strap-like foliage. It's a happy camper in our garden, where it blooms twice a season--in early spring, then heavily in mid-summer! Flowers are cream-colored with rusty-red spots and stripes in the throat. Grown best in woodland conditions in organic rich soils or as a pot specimen.
Though we list this plant as Cymbidium sinensis it has been suggested that this plant is actually a hybrid cross between C. sinensis and C. ensifolium.
Availability: Out of stock.
Notes and observations about this plant
- The flowers smell lemony by Michael, Gainesville, Florida
- I bought this plant from Yucca Do several years ago - I grow mine potted, and only bring it indoors when temps drop into the 20's in North Central Florida. It blooms twice a year - the flowers smell lemony, like Magnolia grandiflora flowers. It didn't take kindly to dividing, and seemed to sulk for a year, but it rallied and now I have two.
