Y06-27 Dyckia brevifolia 'Ribeirao do Cocho' - site - On Sale!
Zone 8b to 10 Native to Santa Catarina, Brazil Grows to 10"h x 18"w
Wild brevifolia! Dyckia brevifolia is an easy to cultivate plant that forms a compact rosette of bristly, rich-green succulent leaves. It performs best in well-drained soil, and likes some afternoon shade during the summer. In late spring, 2' to 3' tall flower spikes are produced carrying brilliant, yellow flowers. The plants being offered are seedlings derived from seed sent to us by a Brazilian Dyckia enthusiast. He collected the seed from his plants that originated from Ribeirao do Cocho, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Y07-99 Dyckia choristaminea - Plum Colored Form - On Sale!
Zone 8b to 10 Native to Brazil Grows to 6"h x 10"w
Spaghetti bowl Dyckia! This Dyckia is versatile and tough. The small mature size and non lethal spines makes it touchable, easily manageable and quite suitable for pot culture. Its tolerance to cold (temperatures down into the low teens for brief periods) also make it adaptable to being grown outdoors, in zone 8b south. Like most in the genus, it can tolerate periods of drought. But if a summer monsoon takes hold it will revel in the abundant moisture. A rosette of this clone is composed of numerous, spaghetti thin, 6" long leaves that are generally grey with plum undertones. The late spring, 10 " tall flower spikes are topped with large, fragrant, yellow flowers - adding another showy element to this easy to touch and love Dyckia.

Dyckia fosteriana - bronze form
Y09-16 Dyckia fosteriana - bronze form - On Sale!
Zone 8b to 10 Native to Brazil Grows to 6"h x 12"w
Parana Dyckia! This species originates from the state of Parana in Southern Brazil. It has numerous bronze-tinted, green leaves that arch and curve forming a flat spiraling rosette. The surface of the leaves is thinly covered with an ashen-grey membrane of fused scales that gives the plant a slight silvery cast overall. The recurved spines on the margins of the leaves seem to be more intensely highlighted as if plated with silver. A most mesmerizing species. Possibly it too is a carnivore like the piranha fish of Northern Brazil, so watch you fingers and toes when working near this voracious beauty!

Dyckia velascana
Y04-94 Dyckia velascana - On Sale!
Zone 8a to 10 Native to Argentina, La Rioja Grows to N.A.
Silver starfish! This is possibly the most cold hardy Dyckia species. I say this because the plants from the area in Argentina where this species is native have proven to be quite cold hardy. Dyckias sold as La Rioja closely resemble this plant and they have been completely hardy to 18 degrees in a pot. Dyckia velascana has beautiful silver-gray starfish-like leaves that lay close to the ground. This habit is quite distinct from most other Dyckias with pineapple-like character.

Y04-97 Dyckia x 'Iron Spikes' - On Sale!
Zone 8b to 10 Garden origin
Iron Spikes dyckia! This plant was a selection we made from a batch of Dyckia velascana open pollinated seedlings. We suspect that the pollen parent was D. platyphylla but we did not spy on the hummingbird that made the cross, so we don’t know for sure. The plant has compact rosettes of stiff, spike-like leaves that are cola colored with silver castings on the top of the leaves and silver beneath. The leaf margins are spiny, but not recurved, so when you get poked, you can get away quickly and are not held and tortured. We have been impressed with it hardiness. We left it outside, exposed on tables this winter. It received no damage into the upper 20's while other similarly exposed Dyckia received moderate leaf damage. Ultimate hardiness is unknown, but it has great potential.

Y01-62 Dyckia x 'Spider Witch'
Zone 8b to 10 Garden origin Grows to 8"h x 24"w
Spider Witch! This Dyckia hybrid is one our selections from a batch of Dyckia choristaminae x seedlings. We selected it because we like the unruly, mounding rosette composed of a multitude of narrow, 8" long, rich burgundy, leaves. The form and shape of this plant remind us of a tarantula-like creature ready to pounce. Though the leaves do have short, somewhat sharp teeth lining their margins, their bite is not seriously dangerous. Note: We apologize to any arachnaphobes or hypersensitive witches out there for the naming of this plant!

Y10-98 Dyckia x seedlings of Icicle
Zone 9 to 10 Garden origin Grows to 10"h x 18"w
These plants are seedlings of Dyckia x 'Icicle', which is in its own right a very fine silver hybrid. Though these seedlings aren't exactly like the parent, they exhibit many of the same desirable traits, such as compact habit, symmetrical form and silver leaf color. The leaves do not merely have a slight dusting or casting of silver but they are almost completely covered. In bright light many of these plants are almost blinding to look at. Although these are not named clones they very easily could be and I personally don’t think there is an ugly one in the batch.
