Gasteria carinatus Napier, SA
Y08-03 — Zone 8b to 10— Weatern cape, South Africa
Napier Living stone! Gasterias have been relegated to pot culture in all but the mildest climates. It has been assumed that the are completely cold tender but our experimentation and observations of the plants seen in habitat we feel some species have a fair amount of cold tolerance. We found this Gasteria carinatus growing in the same region as Aloe brevifola which is hardy in zone 8b, so why can’t the gasteria be as well? This plant has thick, chunky leaves, arranged in 6 in. wide, stout rosettes.
