Hippeastrum x johnsonii

Hardy Amaryllis! This great old hybrid dates back to sometime in the 1800's, which for many plants would mean its popularity would have come and gone long ago, but, despite its age, it continues to be a perennial favorite. The red trumpets with white striped throats are eagerly welcomed each spring and provide a renewing energy that few bulbs can match. It is a very durable bulb and requires very little care once established. In fact, it is often found around old home sites, where the house has disintegrated and disappeared long ago but it has resiliently stood the test of time.
