Mammillarria prolifera - Puerto Purification site
This petite treasure has been a favorite of ours for many years. It has also been a favorite of visitors to the nursery who have always purchased it faster than we could propagate it. Finally, we have enough to put it online. This diminutive Mammillaria has quarter sized bodies that offset to form small mounding colonies. The whitish spines of this selection contrast nicely with the dark green bodies and glow magnificently in bright light giving the plant a silvery appearance. The blooms are a creamy white and are often overlooked but are followed by small bright red fruit that look like rubies set in a silver crown.
Tips. Plant in a raised, rock garden situation or grow in shallow pots and leave out in the garden year round where hardy.
