Nolina lindheimeriana
Y02-03 — Zone 7b to 10— Texas
Hardy, grass-like! Lindheimer's Beargrass is native to the Texas Hill Country and is found growing in alkaline soils on gentle slopes in full-sun. It's quite dramatic when flowering in spring--a 3' tall panicle composed of thousands of small white blossoms that develop into 1' -2' chartreuse papery-husks surrounding a bee-bee-sized seed. This dried flower spike is held above the foliage all summer. The soft, blue-green foliage puddles on the ground and spills out 2' -3'. An attractive evergreen that is tough and long-lived.
