Trithrinax campestris
D14-122 — Zone 8 to 10— Argentina
Silver hardy palm! In the dry foothills of the Andes you see the silhouettes of Trithrinax campestris scattered like stone soldiers. These slow growing palms have the bluest and stiffest leaves of any palm I have ever seen. The 3 foot long leaves are held rigidly around the trunk, making these palms look like well dressed warriors. In habitat they prefer the stony soil and slopes of west central Argentina, but in the garden they have not been picky about soil type as long as it is well drained.
