Ungnadia speciosa
Y04-53 — Zone 7 to 9— Texas & Mexico
Lavender flowers and large seed pods! Mexican buckeye is a small 12' shrub that can be used as a specimen, or integrated in the woodland garden where its lavender orchid-like blossoms grace early spring. Later, they turn into wonderful three-chambered pods that with age expose marble-sized jet-black seeds. Adaptable to all soils, and easy to care for, these take heat and drought that would kill any other flowering shrub.
