Welcome to Yucca Do Nursery

Yucca baccata

Y04-77 — Zone 5b to 9southwestern USA

Banana yucca! This low growing, clumping yucca with stiff blue-green leaves is one of the most cold hardy of all yuccas tolerating temperatures to 20 degrees below zero. The 2' tall flower spike is held just above the foliage and is made up of clusters of 4 in. ivory bells that are often tinted purple to red. Mary Irish notes in her book, in. Agaves Yuccas and Related Plants, in. that some populations have flower stalks and buds that are deep maroon and that this contrasts dramatically with the blue-green leaves. This yucca gets its name from the large banana-shaped fruits, which are produced after it flowers in early spring. A great yucca for a hot and dry location.

In humid zones this plant requires excellent drainage and excellent air circulation. It is best adapted to areas of low humidity.
