Yucca linearifolia
Q03-38 — Zone 7 to 10— Northeastern, Mexico
New yucca species! In the 1980's John Fairey and Carl Schoenfeld collected an unusual Yucca species south of Monterrey, MX. It resembled a Yucca rostrata but the leaves were more succulent, narrower, and were a distinctive pale green. The yucca prospered at Peckerwood Garden and now has reached a height of 5'. Recently this yucca was described as a new species. Thanks to the efforts of Pat McNeal of Austin, TX this yucca was put into tissue culture, which is fortunate since seed of this rare yucca has been nearly impossible to obtain.

Notes and observations about this plant
- Yucca linearifolia by Paul H. Schneider, Eastern Sun Studio & Gardens
- For all you yuccaphiles, this is another "must have". Mine has suffered a bit with the combination of cold(0 deg. F) this last winter plus the Tennessee wet but is is still coming back each Spring. I recommend plenty of coarse gravel for superior drainage. Southern exposure with some nice rocks around it should help to keep it warm & dry. Another hard to find yucca!! (Posted on 7/6/11)
- In Eugene, OR by Tim
- Two years in the ground in an unprotected location here in Eugene, OR, and is growing and offsetting happily. Doesn't seem to mind the nearly perpetual wet. (Posted on 4/27/11)
